Cash only A’ la carte Items Added to Lunch Menu
The lunchroom at PPS has added a new feature this year, a’ la carte items. New kitchen manager Sandra Trykowski, is implementing several new ideas in the lunchroom for the 2018-2019 school year. After a busy summer getting acquainted with our program and visiting with other area school lunch program managers, Sandra has come up with some new twists that the kids will hopefully enjoy. The a’la carte menu will be for 7th-12th grade students only on a cash only basis, so any a’la carte items students desire may not be charged to their meal account, but must be paid for at the time of purchase.
Any inconvenience of using a cash only basis is offset by providing some safeguards as well. Mr. Vetter experienced the introduction of an a’ la carte menu at his previous school and quickly realized some changes were in order when a number of parents began calling the school asking about the quickly diminishing balance in their students meal account. Needless to say, some students, realizing they could charge a’ la carte items to their meal account, were quickly draining the funds intended for regular school lunches. Some students were charging cookies for everyone at their table! The change to a cash basis only policy quickly eliminated that problem.
A’ la carte items currently range in price from $0.50-$1.00.
