A bit about your school nurse!
I began my nursing career in 1994 as a LPN. Obtained my RN in 2005 and in 2018 my Master's Degree in Nursing Education. I have worn many nursing hats throughout my career. All of which have included nursing across the lifespan: geriatric care in long term facilities, travel nursing, pediatric home care, newborn nursery and postpartum care, orthopedics, family practice, ambulatory care surgery, post-anesthesia care, pain management and school nursing. I have been the school nurse at Pleasanton since 2012.
I also currently teach at the University of Nebraska at Kearney College of Nursing, Kearney Division. You will see UNMC students accompany me in the school setting as PHS partners with UNMC as a clinical partner. PPS provides a great opportunity for nursing students to explore growth and development of the pediatric population from ages 4-18. The nursing students also perform the state required school screening and teach health promotion topics in assigned classrooms. UNMC has recently received a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human service to explore a pilot program in the specialty of school nursing. Students that apply to this scholars program will also explore school nursing at our school.
I have a great passion for the students at PPS. My favorite aspects of being your school nurse are getting to know the students and their families, watching the children grow-up and flourish, helping students when they need me and the one-on-one connection with them. This page is a great resource for parents to drop in. If there is anything that I can do for you or any questions that you may have, feel free to send me an email.
All the best,
Nurse Kami
